Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention The environmental health section is involved in childhood lead poisoning prevention activities. Our Environmental Public Health Specialists are knowledgeable and available to speak with anyone seeking general information about the risks of lead exposure in their home or environment. Basic lead hazard evaluations are conducted by our staff in regulated childcare facilities in Phelps and Maries County. The Howell County Health Department, pursuant to a regional contract with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, is currently performing residential environmental assessments for children with elevated blood lead levels in our two counties. The department's Environmental Public Health Specialists provide instruction regarding lead poisoning prevention activities and the dangers of lead poisoning to WIC clients. Printed educational materials about lead related issues are available to the public upon request.
