Family Planning Services

The Phelps/Maries County Health Department offers family planning services by appointment only.

Family planning services include pregnancy testing as well as counseling related to pre-conceptual issues, birth control measures including abstinence, and pregnancy. Two common methods of birth control prescribed for our clients are "the pill" and "Depo Provera" shots. Condoms are also available as an alternative to contraceptive drugs.

Clients requesting birth control drugs receive a full physical examination including a pelvic exam and Pap test during their initial visit to the health department. A Certified Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurses perform the tests and examinations and provide other program services. Physicians are available for consultation by the staff when necessary.
